If you work in healthcare, you are part of a ginormous group of people who care – deeply and inclusively – about the health and well-being of others. You are also part of the largest corner of our economy. Collectively, we have both the potential and responsibility to become a powerful vehicle for pursuing the healthier futures that we know are possible but not certain.

I wrote Healing our Future as a guide for anyone involved in healthcare who wants to become more effective as a leader – regardless of whether leadership is a formal part of your job. In health systems, as in other organizations, leadership has been evolving into a team sport: our environment has simply become too complex to be understood, let alone managed, by a small group at the top of a hierarchy.

I plan to use this blog in the months to come to offer ideas and suggestions that expand on this book, as well as the broader contexts of professional values, leadership, and long-term thinking. When there is science available, I will do my best to provide citations – and when it is not, I will point this out.
